$15.00 USD
Product Details
Our labels are inspired by the colors and stripes of this iconic Taiwan gaji bag. This bag originated during the Japanese Colonial Period (1845-1945) in Taiwan when farmers started weaving bags for supplemental income. The name ‘gaji’ derives from the Japanese term for bag weaving かぎ編み (kagiami).
The bag transitioned from being hand woven with soft rush to machine sewn featuring green, red and blue nylon mesh. They are used by mothers and grandmothers for grocery shopping and farmers for harvesting.
